John J. Coyle, in his book Supply Chain Management: A Logistics Perspective, has defined logistics as, “Logistics is about getting the right product, to the right customer, in the right quantity, in the right condition, at the right place, at the right time, and at the right cost (the seven Rs of Logistics).” Simply put, logistics is all about a single organization that deals in the procurement, distribution, and maintenance of various types of products of the client.
Supply Chain, on the other hand, is a wider term and includes many different organizations doing the same logistics work within its bounds. In addition to the work undertaken by the logistics department, the supply chain also takes care of the marketing, development, and financing of various products.
